Ten years ago, on July 8th, 1996, the PostgreSQL project went on the Internet via a small web server in Toronto.   To commemorate that event -- as well as offer a chance for many members of our community to meet for the first time, in person -- we will be having a small conference from July 8 to 9 in Toronto, Canada.

This 2-day event will feature numerous presentations and community sessions to let community members share their knowledge.   Many major contributors to PostgreSQL will be there, and most of them will be speaking or leading coding sessions:  Tom Lane, Bruce Momjian, Tatsuo Ishii, Gavin Sherry, Neil Conway and more.  At the event we will also discuss and coordinate community advocacy and fundraising efforts.

If you are an active member of the PostgreSQL community ... invidividual or corporate ... you need to come.

The PostgreSQL Anniversary Summit is sponsored by Afilias, EnterpriseDB, GreenPlum, Pervasive, Sun, Skype and others.

Conference Wrap-Up Part I

03:56 pm - Thursday Jul 20th, 2006

By request, I've posted a conference wrap-up.   There will be much, much more stuff once we get the infrastructure in place and all of the files uploaded.

Second day over, time for some sleep

08:35 pm - Sunday Jul 09th, 2006

Again, Dru Lavigne has coverage. Tommorrow we go on to the Code Sprint; see some of you there. Oh, and since some people missed it, Luke Lonergan is the proud owner of a $1000 conference t-shirt signed by all the speakers plus Tom Lane.

First day a success

06:08 am - Sunday Jul 09th, 2006

The first day of the conference is over. I've had many people tell me what a success it was, so I guess it worked out. Dru Lavigne has full coverage, at least until we reached the bar! Further commentary at PlanetPostgresql.

Important Last-Minute Registration

09:12 pm - Thursday Jul 06th, 2006

Registration will be open from 2pm on Friday to at least 7pm in the lobby of the International Living Center on Ryerson Campus (across from Pittman Hall where many of you are staying).

Internet Access from your rooms in Pittman Hall or the International Living Center is complimentary of the conference, regardless of what any staff tell you.   However, it is wired access and thus requires an ethernet cable.  If you have not brought a ethernet cable with you, they are sold in the Ryerson campus bookstore.  If you have trouble getting on the internet in your room, tell the front desk staff that you are with the PostgreSQL conference and make sure they have your room number.

There will be a T-Shirt Auction of a conference t-shirt signed by the speakers on Saturday night.  The auction will be cash or US check only, with half the proceeds to go to the PostgreSQL fund at SPI, and the other half to go to the World Wildlife Fund's African Elephant Programme.

See you on Saturday, or at the registration desk tommorrow!

Map-like things, and emergency contact info

01:01 pm - Wednesday Jul 05th, 2006

We added a couple of map-like diagrams (not to scale!), as well as the directions to Saturday night's event, to the Location pages.  Also, there is some emergency contact information up: if you get lost or are otherwise stuck, you can call us for help.
